St. John the Baptist pre-kindergarten is a Catholic preschool caring for children who are four years old by September 1st. We present a program that is developmentally appropriate as well as beneficial to the spiritual, physical and social well being of each child. Each child is encouraged to progress at his or her individual developmental level. We are a play based program that supports creative thinking, respect for diversity, and social awareness in each child.
St. John’s pre-k staff strives to prepare each child for their educational future in Kindergarten and beyond. Our prek program follows the guidelines of the National Association of Educators of Young Children (NAEYC) and are inspired by the Reggio Emilla approach. Children explore their world through many hands on experiences. Children have daily hands on experiences in the different areas of our classroom including building, science, math, writing, dramatic play, sensory play, open-ended art and outside activities. The children have daily outside time to experience big movement, explore nature and develop friendships. We have daily story and music times. PreK children also have PE, library and “big buddies” with the older children at the elementary school. We go on several field trips throughout out the community during the school year.
