Here are some options available to pay your tuition:

Option #1: Through the generosity of the archdiocese, parishioners, alumni, and friends of St. John, we are able to offer tuition grants for those who qualify. We encourage all families to apply for tuition grants. 90 % who applied in the 2009-10 school year received some level of financial assistance. Grant awards ranged from $50 to $5,300.

St. John’s uses FACTS to help us establish financial eligibility. School family applications for financial assistance are evaluated by FACTS. FACTS provides our school with a fair and consistent evaluation mechanism for awarding financial assistance. FACTS applications are available by contacting the school office at (503) 654-0200 or you can complete the application on-line at www.factstuitionaid.com. If you use the on-line option, it is a two step process.
Step 1: Select Applicant Sign In
Step 2: New Users select Create an Account or Returning Users enter their existing username and password.
Note: The St. John’s school code for FACTS is 154.

Option #2: St. John’s offers a tuition payment plan so that families can spread their payments out over a 12 month period. This is the most popular option at our school. We use the services of SMART Tuition to work with you on the payment plan. You can choose from a 4 month, 10 month, or 12 month payment play. If you choose a payment plan, information will be mailed to you after registration outlining how it works. There is a $38 charge for using the SMART Tuition service.

Option #3: You can pay in full by the first day of school.

Here are answers to frequently asked financial questions?

Who qualifies for tuition grant & how much assistance can I expect?

Tuition grants are based upon your family’s income, number of dependents and any extenuating circumstances. Grant awards vary depending on your family’s financial situation as well as the amount of funds available for grants.

When will I be notified of how much assistance I have been granted?

St. John the Baptist Catholic School reviews applications on a first come, first serve basis as long as funds remain. We make awards on an ongoing basis until funds are no longer available.

What are the minimum standards for SJB Parish Participating Family rate?

To be eligible for the SJB Parish Participating Family rate, you must…

  • Be registered in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church
  • Be a regular participant in weekend Eucharist
  • Be a committed regular financial supporter of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church through participation in the Parish Offertory Plan.
  • Volunteer for parish ministries in addition to school participation.
  • Complete a request or subsidy form. (Families who are not participating will be asked to pay the Full Cost per student rate)

How are share hours and fundraising defined?

Each family is required to complete a minimum amount of share hours and to participate in fundraising as outlined in the Student handbook. Additional fees may be assessed to families who choose not to participate.

What if my financial situation changes during the school year?

In some cases the family’s financial situation changes during the school year. In these cases, the family is encouraged to speak with the principal immediately.

What does it actually cost to educate a child and how is the difference made up?

It is anticipated that our Parish will spend $6,315.00 during the 2010-2011 school year to educate each student. Your tuition and fees cover only 61% of this cost. The 39% gap is filled largely by Parish support and school fundraising. This tuition policy applies to all families, including those who have been granted tuition assistance. School families who support and actively participate in parish and school activities receive a tuition reduction from the full $6315.00 cost to educate each student.

St. John the Baptist Catholic School wants to be a support to you in this process of financing tuition. We want to make sure that you have investigated and understand every option available to you. If you have any questions, please contact me at (503) 654-0200 or email me at jvogel@sjbcatholicschool.org.
