The
Community Learning Program originally began as the Community
Reading Partnership in the spring of 2008. The Community
Reading Partnership was designed to foster a love of reading
in students in kindergarten through 3rd grade at St. John
the Baptist Catholic School. The program was also designed
to involve parishioners from St. John the Baptist Catholic
Church in the life of the school.
The school has recently determined another academic need:
providing students with more opportunities to practice
basic math facts. As a result, the start of the 2010 school
year saw the expansion of the Community Reading Partnership
to also include math and thereby renaming it the Community
Learning Program: Parishioner Student Partnership. Volunteers
for the math part of the program play math games or practice
basic math facts with students in kindergarten through
5th grade.
Our
volunteers have been outstanding in sharing their time,
love, faith, and talent with the children. Many come to
the school to read with students from 9:00-10:00 and then
stay through snack and recess to practice math facts with
students from 10:30-11:30! We would love to see more faces
from our parish community and will provide all the necessary
training and accommodate schedules as needed. Please look
for the application form and other program information
on the school or parish website, and please contact us
with any questions you have.
Thank
you!
